Join the AMTSO community and meet security vendors, testers, journalists, and researchers to discuss cybersecurity trends, tests and standards!

This presentation will cover our research on the NetWalker ransomware from the beginning of March 2020 to today. We will speak about the technical changes we have observed since March (from the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of initial spear-phishing access and VBS code to the use of a CVE exploit and RDP compromised account as initial access; the PowerShell payload; and what's going on when the attackers are inside the internal network). We will also discuss the eriknetwalker story that we attempted to link to the current NetWalker ransomware with similarity code, etc.; and also how we follow the money by tracking BTC transactions. We will also present our hypotheses about the actor (team) behind NetWalker.
Thibault Seret
McAfee Thibault Seret is a security researcher on the McAfee Advanced Threat Research team (McAfee ATR). He is currently focusing on ransomware analysis and research, reverse engineering and threat intelligence, and trying to fight against bad guys. Before joining ATR, he worked as a cybercrime analyst in a banking institution with the mission to improve the digital forensics department, and as a CERT analyst at an IT services company, where he tried to save the world with his teammate. He participates a lot in the security community and CTF competitions and is a teacher for the new generation of cyber defenders. For the Alliance!
